The Magic of Winter
Icy blues, crisp whites, frosted transparencies, and lots of glittery effects team up to perfectly imitate winter at its most beautiful. The layouts featured here all share one thing in common...the liberal use of one of nature's most mysterious and lovely small wonders—the frosty and fairylike snowflake. Although the same theme and color combinations are repeated in each layout, no two are alike...just like the snowflake.

What's With the Hats?
A hat is both a fun and useful fashion accessory and in extremely cold climates an absolutely necessary piece of headgear. A few interesting things about hats: In 1732 a British law was enforced in colonial America restricting the manufacturing of hats to protect the fiber industry in England. The number of pleats in a chef's hat is a status symbol. Many chefs' hats have 100 pleats, supposedly the number of ways a chef can prepare an egg. Wearing a hat on your head in winter will prevent a loss of up to 75% of body heat which is exactly what the little white knit hat featured in our layout is doing...keeping designer Sherry Steveson's daughter warm on a cold winter's day.

Creating Clear and Frosted Winter Layouts
These layouts provide some great tips on jazzing up your winter layouts with a variety of techniques. Clear overlays dress your layouts with a nice clean shine. Frosted overlays and embellishments enhanced with white paint add dimension and provide an icy winter effect to your projects. Using a colored pen to highlight specific words or letters is a simple technique that yields big results.
Heart Can, Frames, and I Love You Layout
Squiggles, swirls, and free-form stamp images open the door to a host of fun floral embellishments. Simply stamp the images in any combination desired onto colored cardstock. Then cut out and arrange into circular or triangular shaped petals, or overlap the shapes to form a cone flower as shown. A nice touch is the addition of flat-back clear crystals to simulate dew drops.
Forever and Always Altered Book
This altered book is a stunning blend of papers, photos, and accessories, incorporating creative stitching and hand doodling as artistic touches. Patterns are provided on the pattern pull-out to help you get started, but trust your instincts and feel free to follow your heart.
Heart Books
One heart pattern yields two different looks. "Fun and funky" meets "country grunge" and these altered creations present the best of both styles. Full-sized patterns are provided on the pattern pull-out.
